When things at daycare go WRONG!

When we searched for daycare for Cailyn we found a wonderful home daycare with the promise of lots of love, fun and learning.  In April we started going weekly for visits so Cailyn could get to know the place and the care giver.  We felt good about our choice after investing almost 4 months into building the relationship.  Once Cailyn started full time there were a few things we questioned and often wondered if it was just our inability to recognize that Cailyn would not get the same schedule or possibly care that she would at home.  There was an incident with a food allergy that made us angry and scared and we had a severe talk with the care giver to ensure she understood the severity of it.  This passed and then a few other things came up - so we knew we needed to find a new place, a nanny or a solution of some sort.  Well, Monday, Mark happened to pick up Cailyn super early.  He arrived to hearing Cailyn wailing inside and knocked on the door - no answer.  He knocked again, then went to the main front door and knocked there, all the while Cailyn was crying.  Mark then hears rapid footsteps from the upstairs of the house pounding down to the lower level where the kids are.  A young girl (daughter of care giver) opens the door and tells Mark her mom is out running errands!!!  Mark grabs Cailyn who sits all dirty and in a diaper and looks like she has a bloody nose.  He immediately calls the care giver who says she is at the vet!!! She doesn't understand why we/he would be upset with this, and when questioned about what we are paying her for she talks around it.  After that call she starts sending me text messages that Mark is making false accusations and is abusive and that Cailyn is kicked out of the daycare - like we would bring her back there anyway!!!!  Thank god nothing worse than this happened and we count our blessings that Mark dropped in super early and caught this as it probably has been happening on a frequent basis.  Very scary stuff to deal with indeed - worst nightmare actually.  Tonight we are going there to get our money back and pick up Cailyn's things, then....report her!!!!!!!!
We have sourced a new heavily regulated centre, with strong government controls in place and cameras for us to watch online anytime we choose to. We initially did not want this kind of environment for Cailyn, but after what happened we are relieved to have this peace of mind.
We did our due diligence and were out right conned!!!

Needless to say, this week has been chaotic and emotionally draining.  I look forward to better days for sure!

It really is scary when you have to trust people with your most precious gift in life and they just dont care. So sad for you guys but thankfully you have her out of that environment. Take care K xx

  5. It’s so hard to know what’s going on when your little ones cannot tell you. Having a camera is incredible- I wish they all had them. Cailyn is so cute now you get to watch her anytime you want

  6. Omg, so scary!! Thank god Mark showed up early and that Cailyn will now be in a place you can monitor during the day. The camera is amazing. I hope this lady looses her license.

  7. Kerrie this is just awful! Thank goodness you have learnt this about this 'carer' before anything else happened and she is now in a place you can monitor. Accusing Mark of being abusive (can never imagine this!) when she is the one who is. Awful.

  8. Am I about to be the only one who is going to swear on this blog? F***, everything we do is for our kids, we would give our lives and then someone, who has no heart or sense thinks they can take care of children. I am beside myself right now. Just know Mark's anger was justified and called for.
I am glad that you are able to find something that will work for your family and give you the security that Cailyn will be care for! I am so happy she is safe.

  9. I am so sorry this happened to my sweet Cailyn. She is a child who never cries and seems so happy the time I spent with her and this is awful to hear. I can't believe the woman leaves and her daughter is in charge and upstairs not even watching your child or others. Was Cailyn just free to move around or was she trapped in a playpen? I would of course report this woman and assume her licensing prevents her from leaving premises with no one in charge. What was the bloody nose from? I am so happy she was crying instead of being shaken to tragedy for crying. This women needs consequences big time.

  10. After all we go through to have our precious children you would definitely want the right person/people looking after them..... scary stuff! Our trio go to a great day care center(3 days a week) which has 2-3 working in th baby unit at all times... and we can drop in anytime to be with them... really gives us peice of mind!
Good on you for reporting her... she deserves to lose her licence... and especially if she is leaving them unattended and also not monitoring food allergies.... hope Caitlyn loves her new place and you are reassured with it

  11. Holy Crap!!It is just beyond words how disgusted I feel for you and Mark!!This women should definitely lose her licence!!And how did poor Cailyn get a bloody nose?!!Maybe charges can be laid?!!Home daycare is a great place if its well monitored. The only one that I would have considered is weewatch. They monitor all their homes very closley and have high standards for their daycares. So sorry that Cailyn had to go through all that.I really hope that this was the one and only incident..really glad to hear that she is in better care at a new home with better regulations and cameras.....

  14. That's not just wrong, it is f'd up! That woman should defitely be reported to to the authorities. Thank goodness you discovered it quickly. I have high regards for well-regulated, well-run day care centers that have "curriculum", schedules, and constant monitoring. Hope you have a better experience there.
